In today’s post, I want to show you 6 activities to celebrate World Mental Health Day 2022 and also as our contribution to spreading mental health awareness.
1 in every 8 people or 970 million people around the world was living with a mental disorder In 2019. In 2020, the number of people living with anxiety and depressive disorders rose significantly because of the COVID-19 pandemic (source).
That’s why contributing to the spread of mental health awareness is important nowadays.
World Mental Health Day 2022 will be celebrated on October 10. It will be a good opportunity for you and me to share and spread mental health awareness.

World Mental Health Day is held on October 10th every year. The annual event is celebrated by the World Federation for Mental Health, the World Health Organization, and dozens of other organizations.
The theme of World Mental Health Day 2022 is “Make mental health & well-being for all a global priority,” according to the World Health Organization. (source)

Post on Social Media on World Mental Health Day
Stigma and discrimination become barriers to many people receiving access to the right care and help. Importantly, we can all play our part in increasing mental health awareness and stopping the stigma.
World Mental Health Day is an opportunity to do that collectively simply by posting on our social media. We can share quotes about mental health, share some mental health-related posts, or by joining some mental health awareness campaigns on social media.

We can also share some mental health resources with our friends on social media. The World Health Organization recommends we use the hashtag #WorldMentalHealthDay for our social media posts. We can also use the hashtag #WMHD2022 with the campaign slogan “Make mental health & well-being for all a global priority”.
I also provide you with some free social media post resources, you can get them here. I would love to see your post, please feel free to mention or tag my social media account.
Share your Story
We might think that our story is just simple, small, or even not that important so we don’t want to share our story. But actually, our story can bring hope to others. When others read or hear our story at least they will realize that they are not alone.
Our story about how we survived, how we found hope, and not give up in the midst of our mental health struggle, really can inspire others to not give up, to survive, and most importantly to seek the help they need.

Trust me, your story matters. I am that person who found hope and strength thru reading other people’s stories. So don’t hesitate to share yours.
Imagine when you start sharing your story about your mental health journey, there will be more people who won’t hide their struggles anymore. There will be more people who want to seek help. Importantly there will be more people speaking up about mental health and it will increase awareness and little by little will stop the negative stigma about mental health.
Wow, it’s amazing, right? And it all starts by sharing your story.
I will start by sharing my story also about my mental health journey. You can read it here.

Taking Care of Our Mental Health
The best and the most important way to celebrate World Mental Health Day is by taking care of our mental health. A few years ago I was a person who really want to be productive but sadly it turned out to become toxic productivity. I didn’t even make time to rest or even did self-care. And that was really not healthy for my mental health.
So, to celebrate World Mental Health Day 2022 it’s good to start planning what kind of self-care we will have. Maybe we provide a day where we can do nothing, just relax without work or any activities. It can be doing exercises or writing a journal every day or trying to have counseling from professionals.

Find something you like to do to be able to relax, connect to yourself, to rest physically and emotionally, especially when you can have time to regulate your emotions, and free yourself to feel anything you feel.
When I feel overwhelmed I like to be alone, writing a journal while listening to relaxing music helps me a lot.
How about you? What is your favorite activity to maintain your mental health?

Learn more about mental health
World Mental Health Day is a good time to learn more about mental health. By learning, we will have more awareness and will have better mental health. In this era, we are blessed by technology where we can learn anything easily. There are so many free resources that we can get to learn about mental health.
We also can attend some events or webinar about mental health which is so many in October to celebrate World Mental Health Day 2022.
Many organizations make international events about mental health. Some of them are online events that we can join even for free. Here are some international events by the World Mental Health Day official organization you can join click here.
Talk to Someone
Provide time to talk to your friends or family and ask how are you. Maybe they are having a struggle and don’t have someone to talk to. Being there, listening, and understanding them are the meaningful way to celebrate World Mental Health Day.

If you’re the one who needs to talk to someone, don’t hesitate to contact someone you trust and tell him/her that you need someone to talk to.
Remember this. People do care about us. Some people in our circle would love to help us. But, they will not able to help if we don’t let them know and ask for help.
Asking for and receiving help didn’t make us weak people.
